As a beginner graphic designer its hard to understand the logo concepts by researching and then having to do them for clients. And also trying to choose which type of logo best suits the brand or business concept. Which can differ from art to typography. But as a professional graphic designer its important to understand the types of logo that exists in the market and the trending logo designs in the design market.
This blog will help you understand the different type of logo's we should be knowing as a graphic designer whether a professional or as an amateur.
These are the 8 types of logos every graphic designer should know.
1. LETTER MARKS
Lettermarks are based on typography that is comprised of a few letters, usually a company’s initials. The letter mark is all about simplicity and being unique.

2. SYMBOLS OR ICONS
This type of logo represents the company in a simple but bold manner. In most cases, the image is abstract and stylized to give visual interest.

3. WORD MARK
Uniquely styled text logos that spell out the company or brand name. Many times, custom fonts are created specifically for brands to use across all their marketing and branding collateral.

4. COMBINATION MARK
These logos combine a word mark and a symbol or icon/symbol to give the flexibility for the use of either or both elements across a variety of applications.

5. EMBLEM LOGO
Emblem includes text inside a symbol or an icon. Most of them have a classic style, while some go for complicated yet unique designs for modern approach.

6. MASCOT LOGO
Mostly colourful and cartoonish and always fun for kids. It also helps to build brand character.

7. PICTORIAL MARKS
This type of logo represents the business that has a strong illustrational concept of their logo often bold and recognizable.

8. ABSTRACT LOGO
Logos that are used to represent what your company does symbolically through colour and form with the attribute meaning and cultivate emotion around the brand.

It is also advisable to ask from the client which type of logo they are seeking for before going ahead with the logo design for clients. Also do note some logos can fall into more than just one category for example: KFC can be both a mascot and combination mark, adidas is also both abstract and a combination logo, McDonald's is also both mascot and letter mark.
